Well, here we are! A second review in the same day. What a time to be alive! Unless you’re Chris, and your responsibility is to photograph the packaging for these things. Yoeman, and such.
On the heels of this morning’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, we follow up with his partner in crime, III-02 Anakin Skywalker. If you read the earlier review, you’ll get almost the same exact results here. I could probably just cut and paste and change the name.
In a nutshell, we get the first Anakin in his ROTS outfit and haircut. That was neat at the time, just to have it in hand. Together with Obi-Wan, you had the dynamic duo together from Day 1. But then reality sets in, and you have to come to terms with the crappiness of the figure. Like Obi-Wan, it is burdened with an action feature built into the legs. You squeeze them together to create a slashing attack motion. The blue lightsaber is sculpted into the hand, presumably to prevent it from flying out while engaging the action feature. The figure comes with a swappable gloved hand and an Anakin hilt.
Anakin had a significant variant, which presumably was a correction. The first release had an alternate red-bladed Vader lightsaber (with right/gloved hand attached to the hilt). This figure was intended to be from the opening act where Anaking and Obi-Wan rescue the Chancellor from Count Dooku. As such, the Vader saber is incorrect, and was later replaced with Dooku’s saber - this time without the hand attached. It allowed you to have Anakin hold his own blue saber in his right hand, and Dooku’s appropriated saber in his left. This way, you can accurately recreate his dark act of beheading Dooku.
Notable for the variant which was hunted by many collectors at the time, the figure is otherwise a relic from the day, and serves no purpose in your current display.
