Qui-Gon Jinn wore robes in all of his non-Tatooine scenes other than when he faced off against Darth Maul in the…uh…truel...at the end of the film.  So shortly after releasing the first mainline Qui-Gon (Jedi Duel) figure that was specific to that scene, they soon followed it up with a robed version.

The sculpt of the figure is more fitting with Qui-Gon’s serene attitude through most of the film.  The face sculpt is similar to the first figure.  There is less articulation, as it no longer has the swivel wrists, and only has one swivel elbow (left).  Besides the robes, it also comes with what I believe was a first for Hasbro (along with the simultaneously released Obi-Wan Kenobi (Naboo) figure) in that it comes with an unlit lightsaber hilt accessory which contains a pin so you can plug. it into the hole in the belt.  It’s removable, and the figure can hold it if you wanted, and then swap it out for the included lit saber.  This was a huge step at the time.  Figures could now have their lightsaber hilts on their belts, while you had the option of removing it while the figure could wield the fully lit weapon.  It was much more realistic, and it opened up a whole new world of display options.

This figure seems to be a classic example of how Hasbro would do that average cost thing.  In exchange for separately sculpted robes, they eliminated the wrist articulation In exchange for the included unlit hilt as a second accessory, they eliminated one of the swivel elbows.  It’s a bit of a shame because Qui-Gon still fought in action sequences with his robe on, although to be fair, he didn’t seem too challenged when dispatching battle droids, so maybe it wasn’t such a big deal that he could really only straight arm his weapon.

As with the first release in the line, this Qui-Gon is soundly defeated by subsequent releases, although Hasbro hasn’t quite perfected the character, including the fact that they haven’t updated his lightsaber with the flared blade yet.  No need to own this figure other than collect-them-all or for nostalgia.
