Hol Okand is one of the pilots seen during the prep montage before the big battle. He is sitting in an X-Wing and wears a generic “blue symbol” helmet. He is not, however seen during the actual battle. So, what gives? Did he get lost? Is he the X-Wing equivalent of a valet who simply flew from the hangar to some outside location where he threw the keys to Wedge and sullenly walked back to the temple to listen to the battle on AM radio with the rest of the valets? To further muddle his role. Official sources list him as a participating member of Gold Squadron. This would suggest that he, at some point, switched from the X-Wing in which he is clearly seen to a Y-Wing. That’s possibly more ridiculous than my valet theory. Next time someone tells you that the old EU is good, show them that bit of total nonsense.
Should Hasbro make a Hol Okand figure? Maybe. Pilots are pilots. If Hasbro makes this guy, people will buy him. I can’t imagine he’s very high on anyone’s list. He’s a generic guy with a generic flight suit and helmet. He doesn’t have any distinguishing characteristics like groovy sideburns or a monocle. His “demotion’ from Gold 6 to non-participant probably hurts his prospects a bit.
