Identifying Ugnaughts is not an easy task.  One of the few criticisms fans have of The Empire Strikes Back is that it lacks the alien diversity that made the Cantina and Jabba’s Palace so visually interesting.  The closest we have is Cloud City, but its population seems almost entirely human.  The Ugnaughts are the only clearly identifiable aliens in the city, and while our imaginations might project hundreds of the little piggies running around, there were likely only 5 or 6 Ugnaughts on set.  The complications arise from the fact that most of the Ugnaught appearances come in poor lighting, and it seems like costume components and masks may have been interchanged between scenes.  In a single scene of the film, four Ugnaughts walk past the main characters in good lighting.  In this scene, Hapnix is clearly seen with his light grey short coat, no overalls, and distinct red hair and side-whiskers.

In the modern line, there have been 4 Ugnaught figures.  One of the Ugnaughts in the POTF 2-pack might have been based on Hapnix.  The outfit and reddish hair match, but the head seems off.  Now, is this just poor execution, or is it an attempt at a different Ugnaught who may or may not exist?  While the spotty quality of the POTF2 line could be blamed, for the purposes of this entry, we’re saying it’s not a match.

This guy is perhaps the most distinct Ugnaught, in the one clear scene, he is hanging back from the group, and may have been intended to be some kind of Ugnaught foreman or supervisor.  There seems to be enough demand to revisit the Ugnaughts, even if the two-pack days are behind us.  If vintage cards return it would be nice to get an Ugnaught, even though this guy does not really correspond to the vintage figure.
