When Han returns from scouting asteroids, or whatever they were doing, and we get our first glimpse inside the Rebel base on Hoth, there are three Power (a.k.a. Gonk) Droids strolling through the hangar. While the droids themselves seem to be the same design, each one has a unique accessory configuration. The guy in the middle, which was made into an action figure in the 2006 Saga Collection, has some sort of weather radar maybe? The one to the top of the screen has a couple of cylinders attached to the side while the third droid has what might be an antennae with a shape reminiscent of a Texas Longhorn. From a figure point of view, this could easily be a two-for-one by having interchangeable accessories.
These seem like pretty easy wins for Hasbro, but we must urge a little caution. When the 2006 Power Droid was released, rather than elation, it was met with a certain amount of scorn. Not that it was a bad figure. It was fine and could probably even be reused for these guys if they dropped the awkward “walking” action feature. But it was hated for what it wasn’t: namely a modern representation of the vintage blue Power Droid. In fact many collectors had not even been aware that there were Power Droids on Hoth, which made it a curious selection for the line. What I’m saying is we need more Power Droids, but get that “Lars Family” droid out there first to avoid the torches and pitchforks.
