It’s funny because she’s a Golden Girl! Of course, the late Bea Arthur was much more than that- having notable film, TV, and Broadway roles over her 5-decade career. This role was not the high point of that career. Here Arthur plays the night bartender in Chalmun’s Cantina, encouraging various creatures to drink more. It can be difficult selling dialogue when everyone else in the scene is an unarticulated Halloween mask speaking gibberish, and that shows in this sequence. Ackmena doesn’t seem to mind, but the zingers tend to fall flat.  The night is capped off when she sings “Goodnight, but not Goodbye” to a slowed-down version of the Cantina theme.

Ackmena regularly comes up in Fan’s Choice polls and such. While this prevalence is no doubt a “Willrow Hood” style joke, she certainly has her supporters. With an updated Wuher pending, this alternate bartender could pick up some support. It would be a fun novelty, for sure. But those days seem to be long past us.
