In this next installment of "Hey, Look At My Stuff", we'll check out a couple of planets that were allies of The Republic during the events of The Clone Wars.

Kashyyyk existed in Legends lore for some time, and word is that Lucas wanted Kashyyyk to be the setting of the battle for the second Death Star. For reasons that are believed to be budgetary or related to lack of proper film technology, the planet was replaced by the forest moon of Endor, and Ewoks replaced Wookiees. It wasn't until 2005 that Lucas was able to revisit what he had once imagined, and he brought the Battle of Kashyyyk to the big screen.

Prior to ROTS, Hasbro had produced 3 Wookiee characters. There were approximately 274 Chewbacca variants, and there was one specialty figure during the POTJ line that was included with a Wizards of the Coast Roleplaying rule book called "Invasion of Naboo." Rorworr used one of the many Chewbacca bodies, with a new head. This character is part of the Legends continuity. And for the P-OTC (post OTC) line, we got Yarua, the Senator from Kashyyyk, although we only see him doing his thing in the Senate chamber on Coruscant.

Once ROTS was released, Hasbro went to town on the Wookies, release several Wookiee warrior sculpts with multiple paint and accessory variations. This allowed you to build up your Kashyyyk forces to help defend the planet from the droid attack on the Wookiees. If you bought all the variants, and sprinkled in a few multiples, you could build a decent army. Note that one of the figures was actually a sneak preview release prior to ROTS.

In addition to the various warriors, Hasbro made a couple of named characters, including Tarfful, the chieftain who worked directly with Yoda, Gree, and Chewbacca in the command center for the coastal defense during the Battle. He was joined by Merumeru, another chieftain, which Hasbro produced almost 10 years later as part of the 3.75" Black Series. The most recent character created by Hasbro is TVC's Krrsantan. Krrsantan, along with Chewbacca, and Merumeru, represent the only super articulated Wookies in the line. The current version of Chewbacca is pretty epic, as it has lasted over 20 years since it debuted in VOTC, but it appears Hasbro is about to update the body for the first time in 2 decades. Merumeru is a solid figure, but lacks the most modern articulation points. Krrsantan is pretty much at the level of the most current articulation technology.

Thrown in just for fun are two more Wookiee figures I have. They are animated styling, from Rebels. Wullffwarro and an unnamed Wookiee warrior were rescued by the Spectres in an episode of the show. They are silly looking, but here we are.

To help round out the Kashyyyk forces from ROTS, we get a Wookiee Flyer, also known as the Raddaugh Gnasp fluttercraft, or Wookiee ornithopter, which everybody knows. It's a neat aircraft, which looks very much like its on screen counterpart. It comes with a pilot figure, which is nearly a statue, except for swivel shoulders. You can fit a second Wookiee gunner into the backseat. Hasbro never produced the Oevvaor jet catamaran, which I thought was a cooler looking aircraft, but it didn't get as much screen time.

And finally, we get the can-cell, a giant bug with very long wings. The can-cell can be seen in the opening shot of Kashyyyk in ROTS. The toy came with an utterly useless and ridiculous Yoda, which was sculpted in the cross-legged seated position so he could ride the bug, exactly like he didn't do in the film.

Moving on to other peoples from ROTS, we have the two species from the Utapau. The planet was officially neutral during the Clone Wars, but after Grievous quietly moved his forces onto the planet in order to hide the CIS council, the leaders of Utapau opted to ask for Republic support. The Pau'ans were the tall folks, and Tion Medon was the leader who greeted Obi-Wan Kenobi and enlisted his help by showing his weird teeth. The figure was actually part of the same four-figure "sneak preview" wave as one of the Wookiee warriors above. In the photos here, he is flanked by a pair of Pau'an warriors. Interesting about these figures is that for some reason, they include a form of rocker ankles. They may actually be considered true ball jointed feet. An odd attempt to push the envelope back in 2005/2006, indeed.

A shorter Utai figure, the second main species on the planet, was released by Hasbro. These characters are seen wrangling various beasts, and also serving as fuel specialists on the landing platform where Obi-Wan meets Tion Medon. A variant was planned by Hasbro, known by collectors as "the tall Utai." It can be seen in the photo shown in the review here, but was never released.

The Utai can wrangle varactyls, such as Boga, which is the one Obi-Wan used to hunt down Grievous. It's a super cool toy. Looks great, has sufficient articulation, and can rear up by pulling the flexible tail. Love it!

Just for fun, I added The Grand Inquisitor, who is Pau'an. For some reason, the creators of Obi-Wan Kenobi decided to change the look of the character, even though the species already existed in live action. Strange.

There you have it. Another look at Hasbro's depth of offerings, this time for a few familiar species featured in ROTS. Until next time...
