Multi-packs are usually a bargain, but often are a mixed bag as far as contents.  At first glance, this looks like a good deal for $25; basically you buy 3 figures and get a fourth for a dollar.  Does it withstand the legendary scrutiny of Bantha Skull’s gallery and review?

First up is Sergeant Jyn Erso.  This is the third time this figure has been released as of this writing.  She is essentially identical to the basic carded version, but the face paint applications on both figures is vastly inferior to the excellent effort made for the AT-ACT pack-in.  The removable shawl accessory is the only advantage that either have over that version.  Don’t forget that a fourth “Force Link” release on the way in the TLJ line.  And, of course, there is a super-articulated version in the Walmart Black Series, which will be repacked in the upcoming Vintage Collection.  Basically, you probably won’t care about his figure, so consider it the one from the set that was thrown in and costs you a dollar.

Next is the Imperial Hovertank Driver.  As a generic masked trooper, it’s technically an army builder, but the limited amount of screen time that the one driver enjoyed in the film really doesn’t lend itself to the army building thought process.  On top of that, you only see the character from the waist up.  So at the time of release of this set, it seemed like a superfluous figure.  We had no vehicle for him, and given the limited scope of this line, it would have taken a miracle to fill that need.  However, it has already been announced that a highly detailed Hover Tank is forthcoming in The Vintage Collection, and a super articulated version of the figure will also be coming in the line.  So at this point, it pretty much makes this figure obsolete.  But, to be fair, it was reasonably desirable at the time of release of the set.  The figure is a retool of other trooper molds.  The paint application leaves something to be desired on my sample, with lots of bleeding and overspray, on what should be a simply decorated figure.  The weapon fits snugly in his hand, and is nicely painted with metallic wear.

Then we move to Edrio Two Tubes.  He played a small role in the film, but as a striking alien design and as one of Saw Gerrera’s trusted partisan soldiers, this was a character that needed to be made.  It turned out quite well.  The sculpt is excellent, with a lot of well done detailing in the outfit, and a nice touch with the separately sculpted air tubes.  The face sculpt is detailed, and the paint application enhances its personality.  There’s a lot of detail, color, and texture to this figure.  A long rifle is included, which fits well in Mr. Two Tubes’s hand.  This is a very well executed 5POA figure, and at this point, seems likely to be our only chance to get this character in this scale.

Finally, we have what should be the star of the show, Saw Gerrera.  It’s a tremendous looking figure, with much going on with the sculpt and paint.  The cloth part of the uniform is detailed with a lot of texture.  There are various pieces of armor all over Saw, and each application of color brings the figure to life.  Many of the parts of the outfit are sculpted separately, like the air hose and mask, the cape, shoulder armor, belt, and holster.  None of it is removable, however.  The oxygen mask, while a separate piece, cannot be positioned over the face in a meaningful way, not that the straight-armed figure would be able to do anything about it.  Saw comes with his mechanical right foot, which is reminiscent of the Force Unleashed Darth Vader figure.  The head sculpt is very good, with an acceptable resemblance to Forest Whitaker.  There’s a bit of bleeding of the hair color onto the forehead, but it doesn’t significantly impact the look of he figure.  The weapon fits well in Saw’s hand, or in the holster, and he can grip his walking stick pretty firmly.  This is also, an excellent figure, although you’d be surprised that standing upright can be a bit of a challenge.  It can be done with some careful posing, but a figure with such solid stature should be able to stand firmly.

Overall, this is a good set.  Jyn is a throw away, and the tank pilot may now be obsolete, but Edrio and Saw are probably must haves, even for SA collectors.  You can still find this set in some stores, and if you haven’t gotten it yet, give it some consideration, especially if you can take advantage of a sale or coupon.  I give it a 5, considering ratings I’d give for each figure, but at a discounted price, it still warrants a look.
