Finn.  A name that strikes fear in the hearts of collectors across the planet.  Finn.  He’s everywhere, in the same outfit, multiple times.  Finn.  Almost singled-handedly (with assists from Han and Leia) destroying what little hope existed for the Walmart Black Series line.  Finn.  Anathema to the hobby that is almost on life support.  Finn.

Nevermind all that, this Finn is pretty neat!  We finally review a Finn that isn’t wearing Poe’s jacket, or even lamer, just wearing his body suit.  This is FN-2187 wearing his First Order Stormtrooper armor.  He’s wearing the outfit from when we meet him, which is essentially the first character we come across (although we don’t realize it right away) in the sequel trilogy as The Force Awakens opens with shots inside the First Order assault lander.  It’s a character that should have been made in the 3.75” line, but at this point, that pretty much goes without saying.  But I said it.  Or wrote it, actually.

Finn!  The stormtrooper sculpt is a bit different from the other basic figure in the TFA line, most notably having a neutral stance, which I prefer.  The paint applications are decent, with a little overspray and bleeding effect here and there.  It’s annoying because the paint is so minimal with stormtroopers that you would think they could get this right.  It’s good enough for a budget figure, I suppose.

Finn’s head is a nice sculpt, with a passable likeness to John Boyega.  It may even be the same sculpt as found on the other Finn figures, which is to say, it’s not bad.  He’s got a determined look on his face, which is cool for the figure, although it might have been more scene appropriate to have him look worried or nervous.  The helmet looks good, much better than removable versions of Republic Clonetrooper or Imperial Stormtrooper figures.  The blood streaked handprint is great.  It’s applied with that dot matrix technique, which has been hit or miss on things like beards, but it works here.  The helmet fits very well over Finn’s head, and is easy to put on or take off.  It doesn’t restrict movement in any way, and it doesn’t have the exposed chin that most of the clone helmets had.

Finn comes with a standard blaster, which he grips well (unfortunately, and as is almost always the case, the THWG is not possible).  There is a notch on the right hip to hold the blaster, as there is for many of the First Order trooper figures.  Also included, one of the more nonsensical accessories I’ve seen so far.  I don’t know what this build-a-weapon part is supposed to be as a standalone piece.  It looks like a shield, which allows Finn to declare his desire to perform “YMCA.”  Or maybe it’s a homage to the distinctive shape of the flux capacitor, because Finn puts 1.21 jigowatts* of energy into everything he does.

[Editor’s Note:  The accessory described above was actually included with the Flametrooper figure.  Go check it out there.  This accessory, is just silly, and doesn’t deserve a witty description.]

I’m glad this figure exists.  It succeeds at everything it tries to do, and it gives Finn a much needed wardrobe change.  I’ll give this figure a solid score of 5 bantha skulls.
