Me ol’ pal Chris covered for me on Monday, so I didn’t do my usual figure review. As such, I’m repaying the favor by giving him a comp day for today. That made Chris happy. But on the flip side, the only way I was going to find the time to do this was if I reviewed a repack, so I could limit the photography and word count.
VC312 The Mandalorian (Mines of Mandalore) is a straight repack (maybe with some slight variations to the paint) of VC292 - The Mandalorian (N-1 Starfighter). What you see above is essentially the same basic gallery from that figure, with a few exceptions. I updated the comparison photo to show the N-1 Mando (instead of VC181) next to this figure to show they are essentially identical. I also re-shot the photo of the accessory load out, because this release is lacking the besker spear. By extension, I also deleted 2 photos from that gallery, as they show the figure posed with the spear.
Otherwise it’s the same figure. I’m going to go ahead and post a cut and paste of the VC292, with a few adjustments and edits. The bad news is that you’ve read 99% of this already. The good news is that if you are bored with this admittedly lackluster review, you can have a conversation in the comments about anything you like. Enjoy that!
[This review is a slightly edited version of the one that was included with the N-1 Starfighter.]
This is a repack of VC292, which itself is a minor kit-bash. The base figure is the one from The Rescue set, with the difference being that it comes with the forearms of some other version, probably the one from the Razor Crest (which doesn’t have the slots for the whistling birds and flame thrower effects). The figure isn’t 100% up to the most modern standards, as it still has the older style hips, and the rocker ankles aren’t executed perfectly. But everything that makes the original figure(s) great is here. The accessories interact well with the hands. Unlike the figure from the starfighter, this one doesn’t come with the besker spear. The included knife is a neat addition, but sadly there is no place on the figure to store it. Fortunately you can keep it in the storage area on the ship itself. I will give this figure a 9. That’s due to the old-style hips, as well as the ankles being very loose, making the figure hard to stand.
