“Production of Cloud Cars was ceased when the manufacturing company claimed to have lost the mold.” - Banthapedia

Major Variants
*none reported

Notes
*This vehicle is from the Empire Strikes Back, but Hasbro decided to package almost everything that was not a movie-based basic figure in the blue Clone Wars “Shadow of the Dark Side” style packaging.
*This is the first modern release of the vehicle.  It is a new mold, not the one used for the original vintage version.

“Not buying this means that you hate fun.” - Adam Pawlus

I don’t think I could put it any more succinctly.  Hasbro seems to share a chromosome or two with the Will Ferrell character Mustafa from Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.  They don’t like being asked the same question repeatedly.  Can we have a Cloud Car?  NO!  Can we have a Cloud Car?  NO!  Can we have a Cloud Car?  Yes, have this awesome one.

I understand Hasbro’s hesitance on this vehicle.  I had the vintage one as a kid, and frankly as a toy, it was a tad boring.  My Tie Fighter, X-Wing, Snowspeeder and Millenium Falcon all had lights and sounds and did stuff.  The Cloud Car was just a two dudes in some pods.

Hasbro kicked this one up a notch.  By pushing the pods towards the center, the vehicle enters attack mode with two missile launchers ejecting from the sides of the pods.  It’s a fun play feature that allows the Cloud Car to maintain a somewhat accurate movie representation in regular mode and then take on an aggressive play oriented stance in attack mode.  It’s the Frosted Mini-Wheats of toys.  As mentioned in the Galactic Hunter review above, it would have been nice if the center missile launchers were omitted from the final design as that would better approximate the movie representation.  The open holes in the grill that result from removing those missiles do not present too big of an eyesore (unlike the face holes in the Dannik Jerriko figure).

There are no decals to apply on the Cloud Car.  All the accenting is done with paint apps which are nicely incorporated.  The occasional dark orange panel breaks up the solid orange of the fuselage nicely and gives this toy a bit of a replica feel.  The pods do separate, but unlike the attack mode feature, it doesn’t seem that fun.  The individual pods are a bit wonky to hold to fly around the house terrorizing your cat (not that that’s what I do with almost every vehicle I get), and they can’t stand on their own.  Like John Hall and Daryl Oates, the Twin Pod Cloud Car was never meant to be separated.  The Vintage Collection Cloud Car Pilot fits well in the cockpit with only a little squeezing of the legs.  I don’t know if the OTC Cloud Car pilot fits in the cockpit because it does not deserve to be near this toy. All in all, this is a homerun for Hasbro.  The only point deduction is because of the aforementioned grill missiles.
