7/10 Bantha Skulls

Well, it’s about time Hasbro finally updated this figure “properly”.  And by “properly”, I mean that he isn’t “a little short for a stormtrooper”.  Nope, in fact he’s a lot exactly the same size as every other stormtrooper.  Considering this is an iconic line, you’d think they could have hooked us fans up with a properly sized figure.  Not the case.

I’m directly comparing him to his wave-mate, Han Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise, and he has some odd differences.  First off, he has a weathered weapon, which is cool, but for some reason, Han’s is pure black.  In my sample, the black paint on the helmet is a little “thick”, so it doesn’t look as good on the Han figure.  Also, the canister on the back of the belt is glued on, which I think is best, because why would you want it removed?  Han’s is loseable removeable.

The blaster fits into the holster, but doesn’t really “lock” into place well, so it looks dumb.  The face sculpt is pretty good, but I think the paint job ruins it, because the eyes look likey they’re about to roll back into Lukes skull as he passes out, presumably from the stench of the garbage chute.  Yeah, that’s it.

The trooper sculpt is very good, but very familiar.  I notice that my samples of Han and Luke are very slightly different, so I’ll presume that the figures were struck from different tools.

Well, in the end this is a good figure, although the height thing is a stab in the gut to collectors.  Also, you have to get over the temptation to send Hasbro a bag of flaming poop for first issuing these figure colored like comic representations a few years back.  Remember?  The blue shadowed, red-lensed version which was then “fixed” to have the blue shadows removed, but with the red lenses remaining?  Yeah, I thought you remembered that.

Anyway, it’s probably the best version of this figure out there, so get it.
